Brain
The short answer

Functional neurology is a whole-body approach to symptoms of the brain and nervous system. Dr. Dale will perform a 7-point brain, body, gut exam to evaluate function and build a personalized plan around the areas needing addressed.

If you've been living with brain fog, memory trouble or dizziness and nobody has been able to tell you why, we'd like to talk with you. Here's what this care looks like and how it starts.

What functional neurology is

It's a way of looking at the brain and nervous system as a whole, rather than chasing one symptom at a time. We look at how your brain is working and which side isn't keeping up as well as it should. From there, care is gentle and shaped around what your exam shows.

Who it is for

You might be a good fit if you struggle with any of these.

  • Brain fog
  • Loss of memory
  • Dizziness
  • Issues with speech
  • Neuropathy
  • Focus, attention, and concentration issues

If any of those sound like you, we'd like to hear what's going on.

Where it starts

We recommend starting with a full comprehensive exam. It helps us look for the root of your symptoms before we suggest anything, and you'll hear what we found and what we recommend before you decide on care.

What you might see here

These are some of the tools Dr. Dale may use. Whether any of them fit you depends on what your exam shows.

  • The nerve rebuilder sends a gentle electrical signal through small pads placed on the skin.
  • PEMF, short for pulsed electromagnetic field, uses a pad or coil placed over the area to give off a pulsing magnetic field.
  • Infrared light therapy uses pads that shine infrared light onto the skin for a set time.

Who you will see

You'll see Dr. Dale Capela, who owns Complete Chiropractic with his wife, Lydia. He is a chiropractor who also specializes in neurology, graduated from Life University in 1997, and has cared for families in Wayne County for nearly 30 years. You can read more about him on our Meet the Team page.

What it is not

It isn't a replacement for your doctor, and we won't ask you to stop anything they've prescribed. It also isn't emergency care. Sudden dizziness, sudden trouble speaking, weakness on one side, or any new and severe symptom needs help right away, so call 911.

Some patients also see our Living Well team for functional medicine.

Process
Step by step

What your care looks like

No surprises, and nothing you have not agreed to.

1

A conversation first

Your first visit starts with history and questions, before any plan is made.

2

A full exam

A full comprehensive exam to look for the root of your symptoms, and whether this is something we can help with or something that belongs with another provider.

3

A plan you agree to

You hear what we found and what we would suggest before anything else happens.

4

Care, then check-ins

We review how things are going with you along the way and adjust the plan as needed.

FAQ

Questions we hear most

A few we're asked before a first visit.

Ask us directly
What happens at a first visit?
We take a full history and talk through what you're noticing and when it started. From there we recommend a full comprehensive exam, and you'll hear what we found and what we recommend before you decide on care.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly with our office.
Is this the same as functional medicine?
They're related, but not the same. Functional medicine looks upstream at things like digestion, blood sugar, hormones, sleep and nutrition. Functional neurology looks at how the brain and nervous system are working.
Should I see my doctor first?
If your symptoms are new, severe, or came on suddenly, yes, and quickly. For symptoms you've been living with for a while, we're a reasonable place to start, and if we think something belongs with another provider, we'll tell you.
